::Research Area::

My general research interests are in the areas of insect physiology, insect toxicology, and insecticide resistance. Most insecticides act on the nervous system and their primary target sites are ion channels in cell membrane. The major emphasis of my research is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of insecticides acting at ion channels. At the same time, I also investigate the effects of different classes of experimental pesticides on insect neurons and mammalian excitable cells with a goal to screen out the potential insecticides. The methods of electrophysiology and pharmacology are employed in my research. Currently, I am using the patch clamp technique to study the complex mechanism of action of pyrethroid insecticides on voltage-gated ion channels in insect neurons.
