The College of Life Sciences

The College of Life Sciences in Nankai University was founded in 1993 and presently consists of 5 departments, 2 institutes, and 2 centers:

1. Department of Microbiology
2. Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
3. Department of Genetics and Cell Biology
4. Department of Plant Biology and Ecology
5. Department of Zoology and Developmental Biology
6. Institute of Molecular Biology
7. Institute of Entomology
8. TEDA Functional Genomics Research Center
9. Experimental Center for Biology Teaching.

The college currently occupies three buildings with a construction area of 15,000 square meters. [more]

Faculty

    The college currently has 80 postgraduate student supervisors, including 52 doctoral supervisors. The college is authorized to confer PhD and M.S. degrees in all disciplines in Biology [more]

History

Biology was one of the earliest disciplines when Nankai University was established in 1911. The Department of Biology was founded in 1922 and the first dean was Professor Ying Shangde who graduated from Columbia University. [more]
